I cannot tell you how many moments and memories in my life have involved food. From holidays to celebrations to even the birth of my daughter (I was begging my labor nurse for french toast while in labor!), there are so many moments in my life that can be captured through food and recipes. I love challenging myself to remember these moments and use them in my art.
PUT IT INTO ACTION!
Take a trip down memory lane- pull out photos from holidays and celebrations and try to remember what meals were shared during these times. Use these memories as inspiration for your creative projects.
Select a family recipe and illustrate it! Nothing captures a memory like a recipe that has been passed down or prepared over the years. Use your creativity to capture those special dishes.
Be on the lookout for colorful food that inspires you! Let your meals, your cooking, your grocery shopping and eating out be the time that you search for unique color inspiration.
Create a color palette or swatches that go along with your food photographs. Photos and palettes are also another great things to reference when working on a variety of projects. I like creating color palettes from my photos on Colourlovers.com and I also like creating quick palettes in my sketchbook. I use both as reference in my art.
Try to come up with 3 ways that you can capture your memories through food as you move forward with your creativity.
Use your favorite meals, ingredients and food as subject matter for your art. Utilize a creative process (collage, painting, doodling, scrapbooking, etc) to capture your favorite food as the subject matter in your projects.
