Wire is an affordable and creative supply to use during the holiday season in a variety of projects. You can bend, twist and sculpt a piece of wire into all kinds of pretty little things. I like creating flowers out of silver wire and using them on top of gifts, in the tree and
There are all kinds of wire made from a variety of materials (aluminum, steel, copper, etc). I typically purchase cheap aluminum or steel wire for decorative projects from the hardware store but if you want to use higher quality craft or jewelry wire you can order it from a variety of jewelry supply companies- my favorite is Rings and Things.
I also like to use a thinner wire which has a higher gauge (gauge is the measurement) the higher the gauge the smaller or thinner the wire. A thin wire is easy to manipulate in different ways!
1. I start by gathering my supplies- its handy to have wire cutters and needle nose pliers on hand but scissors will work on thin wire.
2. Using the wire I wrap it around and around until I have formed a circle that has been wrapped about 6-7 times. (you could also use a piece of cardboard or even your fingers for wrapping.
3. Next, I pinch my "circle" together and use another piece of wire to wrap (tightly) around the middle of the circle. It will now look a little like a bow.
4. Last, I open up the loops of wire and bend them to look like the petals of a flower.
The result is a pretty little wire flower that can be used as is or you can kick it up a notch and add more wire or bead as embellishment to the center!
There are all kinds of ways to bend and form wire and even ways to add beads and embellishments- Use you creativity to find what works for you!!
